The London Transport Flying Club can provide training options for both aspiring pilots who wish to gain their licence for personal flying or as a starting point for a future aviation career. Our instructors can offer training for both the CAA PPL licence and LAPL licence. Below is a short synopsis of each license and links to the CAA website for further information.

We also have an in house examiner, for those whose licences may have lapsed or require skills tests.

Our instructors believe in including students and club members from all backgrounds. They have an excellent reputation for quality training in our small fleet of PA28 aircraft.

Some of our students have gone on to successfully complete commercial flight training and are now flying for major airlines around the world!

The area around Fairoaks has relatively complex airspace and after training at LTFC, we are sure that you will confidently be able to navigate yourself through almost any airspace, anywhere!

If you want to give flying a go, or require training or currency checks, please contact us and we will put you in touch with an instructor!

Private Pilot's Licence (CAA PPL)

The CAA Private Pilot’s Licence is the most flexible private licence. The CAA PPL complies with the rules of the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) and is recognised worldwide. It also allows the holder to fly a greater range of aircraft and to add additional ratings and qualifications. To obtain a CAA PPL requires a minimum of 45hrs of training and a Class 2 medical certificate.

Visit the CAA website for more information on this license.

Light Aircraft Pilot’s License (LAPL)

The Light Aircraft Pilot’s Licence (LAPL) is a United Kingdom licence intended to meet the needs of those wishing to undertake recreational flying. Whilst this license is more restrictive than the CAA PPL it does not need a dedicated aviation medical and requires a minimum of 30hrs of training. The LAPL is only valid in the UK flying ‘G’ registered aircraft and is not valid in other states unless it has been accepted by the state.
